Mercury went retrograde on May 29th and will continue through June 22nd. This is following last weeks’ powerful super flower blood moon eclipse in Sagittarius (check out my Instagram post for more on that! Mercury Retrograde (Rx) is when Mercury, the ruler of communication, transportation, and technology appears to move backward through the sky. It’s the astrological event that has a rep of wreaking havoc on communication, technology, and transportation for the better part of a month. Calls drop out of nowhere, emails mysteriously disappear into the ether, it feels like no matter how hard you try, you can’t articulate yourself the way you’d like to — or in a way people close to you will understand. Further, because this Mercury retrograde moves backward through Gemini and Gemini’s ruling planet is Mercury, this retrograde will be more intense than others, especially for those with heavy Gemini placements in their charts. This can be centered around past relationships – exes, friends and old ghosts resurfacing, gossip, miscommunication and the like. Try to stay open-minded during this retrograde. You’re revisiting past relationships, projects, and jobs for a reason. There’s still more information you need to learn before you can decide whether you want to fully move on, or start introducing these people/things back into your life.
Here’s what the The Farmer’s Almanac says about Retrograde: “The planet Mercury rules communication in all forms—listening, writing, reading, speaking, and so on—as well as activities closely related to communication, like negotiations and contracts. It also rules travel, automobiles, shipping, and mail. So, when Mercury is retrograde, try to remain flexible, patient, and understanding, allow extra time for travel, and avoid signing onto any new contracts that you’re unsure of. Double check your email responses and check in with reservations before you take that trip. Review projects and plans at these times, but wait until Mercury is direct again to make any final decisions. You can’t stop your life, but plan ahead, have back-up plans, and be prepared for people’s shorter fuses and miscommunication.”
Best Advice: Be Mindful not Fearful
Remember that no matter what is trending on social media, the messenger planet’s backward turn isn’t devoted exclusively to chaos, confusion, and delays. Mercury retrograde also presents a chance to revise and reflect, to look backward and tie up loose ends on whatever you’ve previously started and need to address in order to more confidently and decisively move forward. Although this is contrary to the fast-paced, go-go-go lifestyle many of us may live, by taking a beat to slow down and check yourself, you could get even further in the long-run.
So, just be aware that this energy is present and know that there is nothing to fear. Empower yourself by aligning with the ebb and flow of energies. Stay flexible, patient and mindful and all will be well!
