April Fools! Let’s chat about ‘The Fool’, card 0 in the major arcana & take a peek at the collective energy for the month of April…
Heading into April as “The Fool”, we are setting out on a new path with the rebirth and renewal energies abounding!
Here is a quick chat about The Fool and a collective reading looking at April’s overarching energies- beginning, middle and end of the month. Overarching Energy: Death
The overarching energy of April comes in quite perfectly as “Death” signaling “many happy returns” and all of the rebirth and renewal energy of spring and the Easter/Eostre season. It is the infinite cycle of endings and beginnings discussed in this blog post about the “release ~ re-lease” message of The Rose. So throughout the month of April we continue to see the energy of change, letting go, transitions and transformations. It is also an opportunity to purge physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
Beginning of the month: Seven of Wands
The beginning of the month we may find the need to draw a line in the sand – a need to be on the defense and persevere despite many things coming at us – this can be responsibilities, people, competitive energies, our own perseverant thoughts. In any event we are advised to stand firm and reinforce our boundaries. We must ask ourselves are we prepared to stand up by ourselves or for ourselves? Are we strong enough to make a difference no matter what it costs us? This is speaking to both the microcosm and the macrocosm as it relates to social issues and movements playing out on the world stage as well. Remember that our personal growth and expansion ripples out to the collective for the ascension of all. Whatever it is that we are passionate about, we must check in with ourselves to ask are we acting for positive change or to prove a point? If there is need for confrontation of some kind, is it a productive use of energy or are we just arguing for arguments sake? We must be sure that we are taking purposeful spirited action using the best qualities of the fiery wands in concert with a tender heart.
Middle of the month: Temperance & Four of Coins (Pentacles)
Two cards came out together for the middle of the month. The Temperance card brings through the beautiful message of combining elements, balance, integration, consolidation and moderation. She calls for patience and offers us great healing and harmony. In the middle of April we may find that we are we are asked to combine forces and facilitate collaboration or need to cooperate as part of a cohesive unit – this could be at work, at home, in our relationships or within our communities. There is a call to find the middle ground. This is offset by the Four of Coins which can be stubborn, possessive, stagnant and controlling. The child in the Four of Coins wants to protect his beautiful sand castle at all costs and yet eventually the tide will come in and wash it away – all things must change after all. This same stubbornness can be seen in each of the two people on the Temperance card with their arms crossed and heels dug in, Temperance offers them each a glass of fresh pressed apple juice. She reminds them that though one juice is made from red apples and the other from green – they are both apple juice just the same. Like the Seven of Wands, She says that you must be sure that the juice is worth the squeeze! Do you really want to hold so tightly onto that lower vibrational negative energy? Again, there is an invitation to find and embrace the middle path.
End of the month: The Emperor
Ahh! Here is the Emperor energy just as we wind down Aries season on April 19th (check out the collective reading for Aries season here). The Emperor eminates the divine masculine energy with authority, measured control, logic, planning, structure and reason. The Emperor doesn’t make moves that he doesn’t know are successful. At the end of the month you may have an opportunity to assert yourself and take control of your own life with strong will and determination. This is time for you to put into motion the plans you have been making. You may have a (COVID-friendly) “handshake” which could be striking a deal of some kind or coming to a truce with someone or a situation that you have been at odds with.
April Showers Bring May Flowers
Thoughout April, we come full circle on the Fool’s Journey. The construction worker as the Fool may have the blueprints but of course with his carefree, happy- go-lucky disposition, there is not much structure. Temperance brings together his free-spirited nature and blends it with the strategic planning and decisive action of the Emperor.
Allow the April showers to bring forth the May flowers by showering yourself with the gift of the middle way – take a look at weighing out what you are holding onto and standing up for. What are your motives? What is ready to transform? What has lost energy and is ready to be released so that energy can be directed into that which is gaining momentum?
